“Everything Starts with Me” was the title of an artwork primarily intended to be displayed in Qasedak group exhibition. That was when the artist believed that this was her inner message and everything starts with that. In her quest towards herself, a self that did not have permission to live and be revealed, Shabnam Ghafghazi saw the world within herself and shaped her artwork based on that idea. However, the artist eventually refused to take part in the exhibition.
In the years that followed, there were a lot of travels for the artist, within and without, many books and countries entered her life, and growth and freedom from childhood shackles in a broader sense entered artist’s career. Now everything starts with everything and everywhere.
Every human being, as the artist of this artwork, has experienced different chapters of life. Anthropocentrism has a long history; from the time that the earth was thought to be the center of the universe and everything revolved around this tiny globe. But experience and hardships made human find that it is a small particle in the vast ocean of universe comprising billions of bigger universes than ours. By looking at every small corner in the world, we find great, unattainable, and mysterious worlds awaiting us. The human who could not tolerate Galileo’s doubt in geocentrism yesterday, now talks about doubt in parallel universes; universes based on the uncertainty principle.
This time, the artist is exhibiting the same artwork in a new atmosphere and with a fresh view in Abad gallery in a solo exhibition. The artwork gives this feeling to its audience that there is a large and vast universe inside the human being, but this universe is a small particle in vast and parallel universes: universes composed of the same small particles. Each particle, like a pixel, creates a new space along with other particles. In addition, ceramic and tiles work as a symbol of these complicated universes being set together.
